Preliminary preparation

Drawing and process analysis: Carefully read the part drawings and fully understand the technical requirements, such as dimensional accuracy, shape and position tolerance, surface roughness, etc. Conduct process analysis in accordance with the drawing requirements, covering aspects such as structural processability, materials, and the rationality of design accuracy, and clarify the general process steps.

Process information formulation: Based on the results of process analysis, determine the process information required for processing, including the processing process route, process requirements, tool movement trajectory, displacement, cutting parameters (spindle speed, feed rate, depth of cut), and auxiliary functions (tool change, spindle forward or reverse rotation, cutting fluid on or off), etc., and fill in the processing procedure card and process card.

Programming preparation: Based on the part drawing and the formulated process content, carry out numerical control programming in accordance with the instruction codes and program formats specified by the numerical control system to be used.

Processing procedure

Workpiece clamping: Select the appropriate fixture to ensure the accurate positioning of the workpiece, and at the same time complete the establishment of the machine coordinate system and the setting of tool compensation. When clamping, the correctness of positioning, the reliability of clamping, and the fact that positioning and clamping should not interfere with the cutting tool should be taken into consideration.

Tool selection: The selection of tools should meet the requirements of processing quality and efficiency. When large-diameter cutting tools can be used, they should be adopted as much as possible, especially for rough machining. The task should be completed in the shortest possible time within the allowable capacity. For instance, for the rough and semi-finish machining of larger circular holes on workpieces, rough boring tools and semi-finish boring tools can be used. It is not recommended to use end mills for the extension.

Automatic processing: Covering multiple processes from rough machining, semi-finishing to finishing. During the processing, it is necessary to check at any time whether the cutting tools are worn. If worn, they should be replaced or repaired in time. Regularly check whether the tooling is loose. If it is loose, adjust it in time. Clean the chips at any time to prevent them from affecting the processing and causing thermal deformation of the machine tool and the workpiece.

Quality inspection and post-processing

Dimensional accuracy inspection: Verify the dimensional accuracy through three-coordinate measurement or dedicated inspection tools to ensure that the parts meet the design requirements.

Surface treatment: Carry out surface treatment as needed, such as deburring and polishing, to improve the surface quality of the parts.
